Marie Houzelle was born in Lézignan-Corbières, in the south of France. She studied linguistics in Berlin and music in Paris and is the author of No Sex Last Noon, as well as the novel Fanny Wants to Sing. Houzelle lives near Paris and sings in several early and contemporary chamber music groups.

A Story

October 1975. Marianne and I want to start a Married Women’s Group. We feel we have to do something for our sorry, forgotten minority: women in heterosexual couples, mothers. There’s no room for us in the women’s movement: you’re assumed to be lesbian or, if you’re not, to be working on it. Associating with men is a bad habit that should have been discarded long ago. I don’t disagree with that; but here I am, stuck in a pleasant-enough marriage, with a little daughter and also a male lover. The whole setup is not going to disappear overnight.
