Ted Kooser was United States Poet Laureate from 2004 to 2006 and is the author of eleven poetry collections, including Delights & Shadows, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.

Jim Harrison is the author of twenty-nine books and was a food columnist for many years. His work has been produced as four feature-length films and translated into two dozen languages.

Under the storyteller’s hat
are many heads, all troubled.

Straining on the toilet
we learn how
the lightning bug feels.

Throw out the anchor
unattached to the rope.
Heart lifts as it sinks.
Out of my mind at last.
