Elegy in Which I Sleep Restfully

This is the story that keeps giving: In

  the middle of the winter I become

      unknown to myself. Yes, there’s still the hum

  of cup after cup: the water boils, gin is poured,

          drunk. I pickle sweetly. My tin heart opens its bag

      of hope, asks for company, beats like a hurricane
